Greenfield launches self-guided historic walking tour

Greenfield Main Street & Greenfield Historic Landmarks partner to provide historic education through self-guided walking tour.

Greenfield, IN  -  Greenfield Main Street, Inc. and Greenfield Historic Landmarks  recently launched a self-guided walking tour of Downtown Greenfield, powered by the Distrx app (iPhone Link / Android Link).  The walking tour highlights 10 historic structures in Downtown Greenfield that can be experienced at your own pace with just your smartphone in hand.

Greenfield Historic Landmarks is a volunteer driven organization that seeks to preserve and remember this architectural heritage of Greenfield and Hancock County.   Greenfield Main Street, Inc. is a 501c3 organization that also works toward historic preservation of the downtown area through their Design Committee which is part of the National Main Street Center’s patented Four Point Approach which guides the organization.

The tour allows users to walk the historic district and discover nearby significant and cultural sites by way of the free mobile app or by picking up a printed brochure at the Greenfield Main Street office (2 W. Main) with the same information.  Each stop includes historic pictures, audio narration by local historians, and information on the history and architecture of the buildings.  The self-guided walking tour provides a safe and memorable way for residents and visitors to take in the rich history of our downtown.

The walking tour has been made possible through a Historic Preservation Education Grant from Indiana Landmarks, Indiana Humanities, and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
